Device testing
RefurbScore Labs
The protocol in three parts
A device passport records the condition of one specific refurbished device: hardware checks, battery health and cosmetic grade. Here is what each part covers and how it counts in the device score.
Hardware diagnostics suite
Hardware pillar · 30%Up to 15 functional checks in 8 areas (display, cameras, connectivity…). Each check is recorded as passed, warning, failed or not tested.
Battery cycle & capacity analysis
Battery pillar · 25%Battery health is recorded as a percentage of the original capacity, alongside the number of charge cycles when available.
Cosmetic grading protocol
Cosmetic pillar · 15%The cosmetic grade declared for the device (for example Excellent, Very good or Good) is converted into a cosmetic score.

The hardware pillar is the share of recorded checks that passed — a warning counts for half, failed and untested checks count for nothing. When per-check scores are provided, their average is used instead.
From checks to a score out of 100
Device RefurbScore is a weighted sum of 5 pillars (hardware 30%, battery 25%, cosmetic 15%, warranty 15%, seller trust 15%), computed from diagnostic tests and the seller trust index.
- Hardware · 30%
- Result of the hardware checks above.
- Battery · 25%
- Battery health, as a percentage of the original capacity.
- Cosmetic · 15%
- Score derived from the device's cosmetic grade.
- Warranty · 15%
- Length of the warranty that comes with the device; a device without a stated warranty scores lower.
- Seller trust · 15%
- The seller's RefurbScore trust score, computed from verified data.
What a passport is — and isn't
Passports document device condition and test results issued by participating merchants or labs. A passport is an informational record, not a guarantee of future performance. Buyers should verify passport details and merchant policies before purchase.
